....but i also agree with 'Carnut'. your credit rating is FAR MORE IMPORTANT than any Smart or any other purchase. if it puts you in a bind financially, pass on your Smart. sorry, just the logical side of me coming out!

Okay, I cannot pay the lease off early as I will get a $4k bill if I do, and I won't surrender it as I have excellent credit and worked hard to keep it that way. So, those options are out. I will look more into the lease swap thing.

In the meantime, I like the suggestions about the dealer holding it for 30 days. I think I will speak to them about this when I go visit my smart and take it for it's test drive. Being able to stall for 30 days will help just that much more and seems to be the best tactic at the moment. If nothing else, buys me more time to come up with a better solution as I really do not want to take a pass on my 'Stealth Bomber Donkey'!

sounds like you have a good, level head on your shoulders so i don't think you really need our advice. i'm sure if you can get a 30 hold on taking delivery, you'll have enough time to figure out something.

On the contrary, seeking out advice here gave me a new tactic, one for which I had not even thought of - aka, the 30 day Texas Hold-off! =P

And, before anyone asks, I called it my 'Stealth Bomber Donkey' because it's triple black, not terribly fast from what I have heard and well, what's another name for a donkey that goes well with the smart name? =)
