So after having my Smart for about four months, I'm thinking of selling it. I simply just don't drive it enough to justify having it around. I might as well just stick to my ZipCar program and save a bunch of cash.
Question is now, what do you think my chances are of breaking even or maybe even making a slight profit on my Smart?
Passion with all the options. Silver with metallic silver tridion. 3M Chiprotect. About 800 miles. Extended warranty.
Opinions? May be looking to sell end of October. I'm in Seattle, WA btw.

At least it is a car you can break even on or make a slight profit if you hold out. You shouldn't have a problem selling depending upon your location which you left out.
Tantamount to car timeshare: you book your hours/days on line, flash a card at the electronic lock, and pay a nominal fee/hour, including gas, insurance, etc...
Yeah I live in the center of Seattle, so I have lots of ZipCars around to drive. So it just doesn't really make sense for me.
So I was thinking of putting my Smart on Craigslist or AutoTrader or something. Sad to see it go, but I think this way would be better in the long run. Give someone else the joy of having it... So if you guys know of someone near me that wants one, let me know!
Seattle! Craigslist that thing - be careful they don't delete your posting as they frown on cars being listed at over MRSP (not 100% sure on that, just what I've heard). Auto Trader is a great option. Honestly, try posting on the bulletin boards at some of the health food store/tree hugger establishments. Market it in a way that it should be for that area. 95% recyclable yada yada yada.
Remember a lot of uppity people with plenty of disposable income frequent those stores and would love to have a smart just to have as a toy no one else in their neighborhood has.
What is ZipCar? YEa, you could make around $4-$5000 more than you paid. Thats what I am doing when my smart comes in. Sell the orphan.
i LOVE you guys.....are you one of the people COMPLAINING about what the dealers charge? at least there vehicles are NEW!
take an orphan from someone else who would really appreciate it just because you're IMPATIENT, and then sell off the orphan when you're ordered smart comes in because of GREED.
ah, the American way.......'gotta have it NOW' and 'get rich quick'!!

Actually, no. Im quite happy with the pricing. What are you talking about taking it away? The orphan list is for people who are impatient. And for me its not a toy, its a 2nd vehicle that we need now. I dont want to get rich quick, but if they are going for $4000 more then msrp, then I will roll that over into my new car so I dont have to come up with the extra cash again. I have to save and scrimp for the down as it is. Im selling to those people with more money than sense who refuse to wait. I saw one the last time I was at smart. He started yelling and screaming that they would not sell him right that second. Please dont be so ugly here. I just gave my .02 to the person who had a question.
Honestly, if some one could show me it was needed, like in my case, I might think about selling it to them lower. But to most this is a toy. You dont want to wait, then you have to pay. Either pay the dealership for an orphan, some guy on ebay or me.
