Why? Im waiting on the list like anyone else? Why so militant? What if we want two cars? Like I said before, we need a second car that is cheep on fuel now. Heck, if I could just bring it back when the one I reserved came in, and no harm no foul, I would. Like it or not, People are doing it all over the country. In fact, when the hybrids come out, I will be selling my smart for one also. Is that so bad?
Why should someone have to forfeit their reservation if they get an orphan? You put down your deposit and wait like everyone else. You get on the orphan list and wait just like everyone else. They are two separate issues. I hope to get an orphan also one day, but still plan on keeping my reservation.

Had good results from advertising my Miata on Craigs List... but BEWARE of Auto Shopper as they are rip-offs! Ran my ad online, but not in magazine. I e-mailed them and no response and no response on the ad at all. Also putting the car in a public place with For Sale sign on it would probably result in LOTS of calls! Saw a used Smart today in a used car lot. Had 500 miles on it, Passion coupe with comfort package, silver/silver/black, price posted: $19,900. It's been there a few days at least, I believe. Maybe people are doing some research and seeing that the prices are way over-inflated.
If you have a reservation and get an orphan, you're likelier than avg to sell the orphan, which goes against the Penske policy. I agree that you should have to forfeit the reservation process if you take an orphan.

Aginst Penske policy? For selling my own properity? So now you think only one car per family? Just because you dont want to pay for the orphans or dont want to pay for pre-owned dosnt mean others dont. And its not like I dont WANT the car. I NEED a car, and if I am going to get into a car, I want it to be a smart. What is wrong with that? Its not agints any policy or laws. Get off it. You people are the type who were aginst $99 deposit. Let the rest of the world share in this car how they wish.
American Capitalism is based on a free market system. Penske doesn't forbid you from selling an orphan. The orphan is the dealer's property once the reservation holder releases it. Just because there are 100,000 people waiting to get a customized vehicle doesn't mean they can't go to a dealer and get an orphan from either a dealer or private sale. Let them; it actually increases the value of the cars we have to have a few thousand more on the road. The smart needs to establish roots in America to succeed; being greedy, selfish or jealous won't help anyone.
If anyone here doesn't want to wait 18 months for their own custom car, they're welcome to call any and all dealers to see what they have available. Penske would love to have their distribution system optimized just like that. There are cars waiting for an owner, you just have to match the two up.
I agree that orphan and reserved are two different things. If you pay for the orphan and its yours, you should be able to do with it what you want after you have it. Can imagine a world where you buy something, it belongs to you and you only, and someone else wants to tell you what to do with it? Not in this country. Reservations are a seperate issue. If I shelled out the extra money to have an orphan I would certainly not give up my reservation. People that don't want to wait can go buy an orphan now, many people have, and I think they should be able to do wot hthe car what they want. Maybe people should just start reserving more cars. Then they could sell them to other people at no markup for their extra value to other people that do not want to wait either. I mean, please, just wait patiently like everyone else if you don't want to pay, but once that car is out in the marketplace I think they should sell for every penny people can get for them.
Should I sell my father's 1963 Porsche Super 90 Cabrio with only 26,000 miles on it for 3700 bercause that's what he paid for it, and to ask a penny more is not fair? Right.....this is a free market economy....one of the things I love about America. Or....
don't hate the playa, hate the game.
