Time from confirmation to delivery

Does anyone know roughly the time frame from when you confirm or configure your car to the time you would take delivery?

for the current people (Club 1173) it is running 10 months, for the rest of us it looks a bit longer, more like 11 to 12 months.

11-12 months? Is that from initial deposit to delivery?

Another post on this forum had a letter from Smart that says they are trying to deliver 90 days from configuration. Good news for me since when I was confirmed the email said I should expect delivery in the second half of the year.

Im an 1180 and I was told the first half orf 2008. I suspect it will be around late March or April before I get contacted. It will be good for me, timeing wise, but you are correct in the asumption it is a long wait from deposit to delivery. But hey, its the first year, first dealers, first everything, I dont believe anything ever, that was first was quick. Patience here for the car is a must. Just my thoughts. Oh an afterthought. Just new stuff that was first not racing, running ect. I ordered i March 07 and confirmed in Nov. So I suspect 12 months is about correct from inseption.

The original question asked from configuration to delivery - which is almost 5 months on these first guinea pigs. But there is no way to know how the rest will go, and if the rate of configuration is consistant with the rate of production. Hopefully it will be closer to 3 - 4 months once the process gets going

Do remember they increased the manufacturing output for PAG, I am willing to bet that you will see it prior to april1.

Well I hope you are correct. Oh, on another note, if this car had come out say 5 yers ago when we attacked Iraq and France , most of Europe was veheminately against us, I suspect it would not have been as eagerly waited upon as it is now. I still have my issues with France on that, and Germany as well, but that is another topic.

That isn't what the letter says. It says that they are trying to let everyone who has not confirmed know when they will receive their car within a 90-day window. They will tell you something like "your car will come in between Jul 1 and Oct 1". They said that they should probably do this by the end of March.

They also said "within the next 30 days any Reservation Holder who has a confirmed order in production will also be notified by smart USA and their dealer". Does "confirmed order in production" mean any confirmed order? Who knows?

I think that it is anyone's guess what the time will be between confirming and delivery. There must be some target time period between confirming and delivery, otherwise Smart would not have jumped later reservation holders ahead of earlier ones, based on geography. On the other hand, it is coming up on a month since the most recent confirmations and I doubt that there is going to be a corresponding month of no deliveries.

It looked like the early reservists (March) were beginning to get invitations to configure in September and are just getting their cars now (i.e., four months). I think these first ones took a long time for a variety of factors (reservation process, determining and scheduling manufacturing, and the confirmation process); in short, I don't think they should have taken that long. (Volvo is delivering orders for the C30 in six to eight weeks and that would be typical for overseas deliver of a BMW or Mercedes.)

For us non-early reservists, we're queued because of the huge interest and demand. My reservation letter was before they thought to update their boilerplate. It said the "second half of 2007" and I didn't reserve until October. I'm not expecting to configure until third quarter of 2008 or take delivery before Q4 or even Q1 of 2009.

So, depending upon what correspondence a reservist received from Smart and to what degree a reservist has been plugged into a forum like this, it is understandable how folks could be really ... unhappy.

Depending upon fuel prices, I'm betting sometime in 2009 people will be able to get a Smart in less than four months.
