Tiny 1981 Mercedes was smart's forerunner
Long before the smart took to the highways, there was the 1981 Mercedes-Benz NAFA concept vehicle (stood for Nahverkehrsfahrzeug). It was the mystery car this week at USA Today's Drive On blog.

I would buy it. It's today's smarts' grandaddy!

I always knew that this car was what the smart was based off of but I didn't know that it was a 1981!

Looks mid-90's to me.
