I'm not sure if the car is off and the key is out of the ignition and the car is in park, it would register as an accident. It would, if it had an alarm system, set off the theft system if the vehicle began to tip (not sure if it has a gyro in the theft system like pinball when it said tilt).
I'm not sure though that the alarm, if it went off after the tilt, would stay on indefinitely which poses the question, who snapped the photo used? Was it the victim or the juveniles? Why would they tip a smart car in the day? My guess is that the victim snapped the pictures and somehow, the juveniles got their hands on it.
Maybe it was Photoshopped on it's side? Doesn't look like much damage when observing their group photo. No shattered glass, no pieces of the side view mirror scattered about...
I doubt the owner would leave his lights on especially with the beeping sound the car makes when you take you key out of the ignition and open the door with the lights on.
Also, I don't think the stupidest person in the world would start walking towards the house to snap a picture.
Also, I'm pretty sure the hazard light would go off when theft would be detected, not the headlights. Maybe the headlights do conveniently go off when an accident it detected? I thought it was the hazards? If the headlights go off, they must have snapped that picture perfectly in time for when the headlights were pulsing.
I can see the side glass a bit, but that side mirror almost looks like it was kept bent in when it was presumably tipped. If it went straight down, it would have shattered outwards and shards would have been seen scattered.
All true...This is one fishy picture...My only guess is that it's an aftermarket system that pulses the headlamps...
According to some documented cases, a crash would activate the hazards, not the headlamps...In one thread, a hard braking and steering maneuver caused the hazards to flash. I presume it's a safety feature to increase your visibility before and after the crash.
Neon, I have not heard of an aftermarket alarm system for the smart car so I don't believe it is that.
The time of day, the headlights with no hazards, no horn to scare the vandals off, the position of the taken picture, and the lack of more shards is what is getting me on this picture. I'm very skeptical of this image.
As I know of there are no aftermarket alarms designed for the smart but there are a few threads where some have claimed to have installed an aftermarket alarm (which shouldn't be too hard, you could almost add an aftermarket alarm to any old car)...
If it is a photoshopped picture, they did a good job. The background looks right through the back window, light reflection on the ground from the windshield, not sure what is by the car next to the photographer, looks like a car door. The third car would have to be parked across the hood... No front license plate???
Noticed on your profile, it says your car is Black w/silver and Black interior.... Something doesn't seem right here...
Unless the picture is of a tipped smart and not the OP's vehicle.

These states only require one rear plate:
Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia.

Why are some of you assuming this picture is the car referred to in the OP? If you read the first post he says his car was tipped "onto the sidewalk". This picture does not show a car tipped onto a sidewalk. In addition, I already showed in post 47 that the car he owns is not the same car shown in his profile.
If I posted on this forum that my car had been damaged by vandalism, then watched 7 pages go by with Viagra jokes and discussions of my honesty, I would not spend much time around here. There is already another thread about the Facebook group that contains this picture, why dissect it here?
Jokes aren't funny if they are at someone else's expense. But I guess I better grow another pair, as I was told last week...
The OP was the only time this person has posted in two years of membership. They had four other posts back in 2008. Since then nothing. Just throw out the meat and watch us go.
My Smart car right now is in EuroMotorcars in Germantown. So far it has been a week already. There was damage to the suspension, wheels, tires, and body. But that's it so far.
To mdfortwoguy, I live in Rockville area. EuroMotorcars is where I purchased the vehicle too.
Right now I am just being very impatient about getting the car back from the shop.
