No, the are not rubbing or touching the wheels at all. They've stayed tight, but I check them every time I park.

And, yes, Karl, low speed is the only options with chains.

It's been nearly 5 years since we've had measurable snow so I didn't consider investing in snow tires. This so rare!

ODOT has lifted the chains requirement today, but we have another storm coming in tomorrow, so I think I'll keep them on.

We got a lot more snow in the So Cal mountains, about 3 1/2' a week or two ago and another 6" of ice layered a few days ago. I would love to take my Smart out in the snow but the problem is not traction, it's high-centering on a berm or hitting a block of snow/ice that fell off the hill. What I want to see is a plow made for the Smart, now that would be cool.
