Tire repair kit

Hello all. Has any one used their tire repair kit. I am taking a long ride in a couple of days and am a little concerned of the possibility of getting a flat. Does any one know how much a whole new wheel and tire would cost from smart to keep as a spare? Would the dealer have them in stock?

My dealership sold me a stock wheel and tire (back one I think) for $150.00. You might want to check with yours

I bought a tire plug kit from autozone... of course it and the goop in the smart kit are useless if the puncture isn't in the tread.

Some folks are using. . .

Lots of folks have reported good results with in-tire additives such as "Ride-On" "Slime" and the like. They're supposedly good for punctures up to 1/4". . . These can both be bought at WallyWorld in the auto dept. Also a vendor on here sells a heavy-duty version for a bit more $$ - but I can't recall the name right now. Good Luck~!

There's also the tire repair kit a lot of members have recommended. (The first one on the page.) Nealey Tire Repair Kit - Repair Kits
I bought one, but my wife was nervous about long trips away from a dealer so I went ahead and got a spare from tire rack. (It arrived the day after I ordered it!) If you go that route, don't forget a jack and a lug wrench with a 15mm socket.

I have used the repair kit. After, I ordered another bottle of the goop, hoping the rest of the kit can be used again, but anyway, the goop cost $45 and the tire is still going strong. This was about 2 months ago.

There's also a good place to get a bag to put your spare, jack and such in: The Bag Lady It may take a while for her to make yours, but it's worth the wait.

No substitute for a spare tire kit (tire/wheel, jack and lugwrench) as anything can happen to a tire or wheel. You hit a rock and dent the rim or tear the sidewall, what are you going to do? Sure, you can get towed to the nearest tire shop or dealer but what if it's on a Saturday night and all is closed until Monday, how will you get home? Also, say it's mid day during the week, Smart dealer is a mile away, you get towed, how much time does that steal from your vacation spending hours waiting for them to locate a tire and fix it? Also, this is a rare tire size, I believe only for the Smart, on top of that it's a rare wheel with 3 bolt holes, you are in the middle of nowhere, how long with it take a typical tire shop 200 miles away from the nearest Smart dealer to get you that tire or wheel?
