Topped off a bad weekend (bird strike)

I had originally written a longgg explanation of what happened but true to the way the weekend went.....it got lost in the site update .

Went to try out my 2.0 upgrade today by driving a back road to Alabama for gas (an extra 12-14 miles out of my way). On the way I had a Turkey Buzzard fly out from the woods and nail the windshield post/tridion and rip off the passenger side mirror. I turned around and found the mirror assembly as well as the foam underlay that was stuck to the bird but the mirror was gone.

This bird had a 6+ foot wingspan and was a good 5+lbs! At my old job we used to drive a long ways daily and had one fly through the windshield on one of our trucks while they were doing 70mph. I was doing 60-65mph when I hit this one. I didn't take pics of the bird I hit but it looked like the one below.

After thinking about how much the new mirror assembly would cost I went back and looked again for the mirror itself. Walked through where it might have gone and sure enough I found it about 15 feet into the woods! Everything snapped back together but I had to rebuild the threads that were stripped in the plastic on the mirror assembly. Gotta love gorilla glue!

Jezzzz!!! It's a good thing that vulture didn't come through your windshield!
Hopefully, your weekend got all the bad stuff out of the way and you can now proceed with a funtastic Summer (your season).

This is a reminder to watch out for buzzards and other critters waiting roadside to ambush us! So far the biggest ones I've killed have been insects. Knock on wood.

Jet, state bird? I thought that was the wild turkey (as in turkey tourist), LOL

I was on hwy 29 here today and saw a large buzzard smashed on the road. I thought imagine the damage that thing could do to my smart.

I had a Purple Martin stike a few weeks ago. Wacked the tridon right above the windshield. Not a mark. Got home from the same trip and found a Mockingbird stuck in a glue trap in my garage. That was one pissed off bird. Dang.....birds and smarts dont mix...

Sorry to hear about the strike. Glad you found your parts and got it back together.

You do not have a good week!!!!!! I am glad that you ok. I did have "near miss" few day ago with a buzzard.

Just in case there is any confusion: Florida's state bird is the Mockingbird, same as Mississippi. Although, some folk claim Florida's is actually the mosquito.

Bum----
Sorry about your lousy weekend, I feel partially responsible for getting you down here for Old Town and then you getting sick. I hope all the bad stuff is behind you now.
