i agree.....more micro cars can only be a GOOD THING. and with the availablity of the I.Q., maybe there will be more smart cars available, or at least not such a long wait for one..........

The US version of the IQ is supposed to be at the LA Auto Show next weekend. I am looking forward to more pictures and information then!

I plan to keep my SMART because I just enjoy a MICRO CABRIO. IF Toyota can make one with better MPG then I would do the switch.

Either way I am happy to see more and more manufactures working on making Micro cars for the US.

I hope to go to the LA Auto Show and take lots of photos...

Assuming I can get to sit inside the IQ, I'll have my son take photos and let everyone know what I found.

And since you asked so nicely...

For all of you that think I dislike the Smart - you're wrong. I loved almost all of the car. Give me the option of a fully manual transmission and I'd order another right now.

The interior of the iQ isn't as swanky as my black leather Smart was, but they aren't in production yet and hopefully there will be other interior options offered.

I may go to the Detroit show to see if there is anything different in the months following Paris, but I'm doubtful. It promises to be depressing show with the Big Three on the brink of bankruptcy, several of the high-end foreign makers pulling out of the show, and just the overall mood pretty dismal.

I'm truthfully more excited about the possibility of an Abarth Fiat 500 or possibly an Aptera in the next few years - Californians are lucky that they get the first shot at these.

Fellow Smarties,

Do we consider this car a threat?

We cannot blindly assume it doesnt fall in our category. As far as micro city cars go, this and the smart are bumping heads.

So they didn't have the IQ at the 2008 LA Auto Show AND they didn't have the IQ at the 2009 LA Auto show.

Crud....

Threat? No.

Competition breeds improvement. Plus - if it is anything like Toyota's current small car lineup, the interior will be fitted with chintzy hard plastic coverings and mouse fur upholstery. The optional leather will be spray dyed and not vat died and will look like garbage after 3 years, and trying to work any sort of conditioner into it to soften it will be damn near impossible. It'll be another appliance for people who buy it for the nameplate and not the engineering behind it - aka most stupid American consumers.
