If your dealer is one that has alot of orphans on the lot, I wouldnt look for top dollar for trade in. Kind of hard to estimate since Kelly, NADA, and Edmunds still dont even list the smart
Last month I was at my dealer's getting the snow tires put on and was musing over whether or not to trade my orphan in when the smart I ordered arrives during the next few months. He told me that so far, he has had one person do so and that it cost them $1000 over what was already financed. The old smart had under 10K miles and the cars were comparable in features and extras.
Of course this has not helped me make my decision Probably will vacillate until the new smart is delivered.
Well, I don't have experience in trading in my 08, but I have enperience in trying to trade in my 08.
When my ordered car came in I asked the dealer what he'd give me for my 08 smart (orphan). He said 15-15.5k.
(My 08 is a fully loaded passion with $2500 worth of dealer special orphan goodies, silver cell, metallic red and area 451 cruise control. I have close to $20k invested. Oh, it had about 8,000 miles on it at that time.)
The dealer had 17 orphans on the lot that week.
So, I let my ordered car go orphan and ordered another thinking that 2010 might be a more favorable time to switch.
