Every so often I will spot a smart in the used car section of a dealer ship priced 2 to $3,000.00 over retail. This leaves me to wonder how much our smarts would be worth on a trade in. Im not thinking about trading now but it would be nice to know that in the future if I might need a bigger car I could get nice money on a trade. Sales men have told me they like to make about $1,000.00 profit on a car they take for trade. If this is true we should get at least what we paid for our smart for the dealer to sell it for $3,000.00 over. Any experiences or opinions?
Unlikely!! Dealers like to make as much as possible on a trade and get you to pay as much as possible for your new car. Without any KBB for our smart, expect to be offered something far less than what you would think to be reasonable, like $7,500. The best deal I have seen posted was a member who sold to Carmax for $16,000. Good Luck!!
