Find a buyer and have the dealer do a courtesy trade. The value that you are selling the car for becomes the trade in value. The buyer actually buys it from the dealer.

they will give you nothing for your car.. i traded in a 2008 civic ex with 4K miles. and they gave me 15500 for it. KBB said it was a trade in of 18000 but i really wanted the car so i gave it in anyway.

I've sold several vehicles on craigslist. It's free so what the heck. Just watch out for scammers. Don't sell your car to anyone not willing to come pay for it in person with funds that get wired into your account. You can't even trust cashiers checks any more. The dealer will give you several lines like "we'd ship that out to auction and they just aren't getting that price." I heard that one from 3 different dealers. They must have a handbook of quotes for suckers that is required reading. They definately will not give you what your car is worth on the open market. That being said, low KBB is going to be difficult to get these days.

Well, the mirror isnt missing, but it did get knocked off and then reattached with what Im assuming is bondo. (This was my girlfriends brothers car, he bought it new.) For some reason they were under the impression that the part was over 2k, but Im looking now and its under 100 for it. Probably just go get it fixed soon.

Just wondering since my savings plan for this year didnt really bang out like I hoped (bought a house in June). Might have to cancel my reservation, but thats my fault really.

Anyway, thanks for the links and suggestions guys.

KBB has nothing at all to do with dealers; the only time they use the value from KBB is when they compare the price they're selling the car for to KBB.

NADA or auction prices are all you can expect from a dealer. At the most.

The NADA price is about 1000 over KBB price for trade in assuming rough condition. That seems weird.

Not really; the NADA price is one of the books that dealers use. Some use Black Book as well, but they also have access to data we consumer dudes don't. One thing you might want to do is head over to Carmax in your neck o' the woods. Let them appraise your vehicle and see what they say. They will almost always offer more than what the dealer you're actually buying a car from does. Interestingly, though, there are a few Carmax dealers that are no longer offering to buy full-size V8 powered SUVs. Don't ask me how I know ... but if you know of anyone that wants to buy a full-size Jeep Commander 4x4 SUV with V8 Hemi in, you go ahead and drop me a line.

Your pal,
Meat.
