Finally realized my smart will not activate the magnetic sensors in the street for traffic signals. If I am alone in a left turn lane, nothing will happen until another car pulls in behind me. I have no idea if it is the size of the car or lack of magnetic material. Anyone else notice this problem?

Reason: changed title
I have had that happen with my motorcycle before, but not my smart. With that roll cage it has quite a lot of magnetic material. Sounds like you should call your city about increasing the sensitivity of their magnetic sensors.
don't think the sensors are magnetic sensitive, just to weight. Seems like they should be sensitive enough to pick up a motorcycle, so surely a smart!
Perhaps you drove too far up and passed the sensor?
And to think I thought I was going crazy! Glad to hear this from another LA smarty! I noticed this the first day I drove the smart into one of these intersections. I thought it was the weight but was told the sensor were electro-magnetic.
You want to make sure you have enough metal to trigger them. My bike dosnt and its a 78 honda hawk. Only a few plastic pieces. Everything is heavy metal. By bike isnt heavy enough. Dont know what the weight for the signal is, but I think it might be that. The engine alone should trigger the magnet.
