Agreed... I got a photo copy of my Reservations Detail page from my dealer today and it shows the Current Status as "In Transit". It was part of a nice binder included in the "package" they got yesterday (so it was printed early this week I assume). Cross checking the VIN # to the shipper site my car got unloaded yesterday. I would assume then that "In Transit" refers to being on the ship heading to port.
sitting at origin, a transshipment point (a lot at the port or elsewhere) on a truck at the dealership and any other place between is in transit. Movement is not the key, just that it is being moved...

In transit for our purposes means on the water and there was a discharge of 148 cars yesterday in Baltimore. I got confused where a Seattle dealer said a car was in transit to the dealership. I believe no cars will leave the ports until Monday. Wonder if during the staggard departure to dealers they will continue until storage is empty?
