To me (and I'm sure to most dealers telling their customers) in transit includes it all - ship, rail , truck. And I do believe cars have already left Baltimore.

I asked this specific question of SMART Portland OR. I was told that in transit ment that the car was on a truck headed for the dealership. I was told that "in Transit" was better than "in Port"

And much better than "In Production" back in France.

There are three status codes - In transit, in port, and in production.
In transit - Car is in transit from the port to the dealer.
In port - Car is in the port and waiting to be delivered to the dealer.
In production - Car is at the factory.
If any one has any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Confused===My car (paper) yesterday in the packet said in transit. My dealer called smart and they said it meant on the water. I cargo tracked my VIN number and found that my car actually was discharged yesterday morning at 8:00am. in Baltimore. Therefore, since the packed was sent on tuesday, at that time my car was "in transit" It is my understanding that no cars will leave their ports until Monday.

Four steps between France and your dealer.

In Production: Somewhere between a bunch a parts and a finished car at the factory.

In Transit: Somewhere between smartville, France and your port of entry.

In Port: Sitting on the docks in the USA. Baltimore, Jacksonville or Long Beach.

Undefined: On the truck from the port to your dealership. No cars in this stage, yet.

in transit

[QUOTE=FWOIII;19812]In transit for our purposes means on the water and there was a discharge of 148 cars yesterday in Baltimore. I got confused where a Seattle dealer said a car was in transit to the dealership.QUOTE]
The three status codes we have are "in production", "in transit", and "in port". The "in port" tracking information places those vehicles in Long Beach first and but does not give real time location info after they are off the ship. Even though logistically we could see up to 14 smarts per load, we are expecting to see 3-8 per truck over the next few weeks.

I could be wrong, but I am just going by what our general manager told us here at the dealership.

And yesterday my dealer got five cars, three said in port and two said in transit. So you can't believe what it says.
