Transmission won't shift gears.

Hey guys, i have a problem on my smart that has been a bother ever since about the 40k mile mark (the car now has 50k miles).

Sometimes when I move the gear selector, the car wont go into gear, and will start beeping at me relentlessly until i put it into neutral or park. And on other occasions I put it into reverse, and won't do it, then I put it into drive, inch forward a foot or two, then try reverse, then it works.

WTF is wrong with my car?

It's periodic, so it doesn't happen all the time, but it's annoying, especially if there's a car in front of me.

It happens on occasion, not frequently, and has been to the shop. they found nothing wrong (but only bc it didn't happen to them in the two hours of having it on a lift).

Agreed, tell them you are having the no reverse issue. It's a know issue, and there is a patch that smart should do for free, regardless of mileage.

Did you get the latest one? The most recent update was to help correct a problem similar to what you describe.
