I DO have a question, what sort of person installs cruise control, A stereo/alarm type guy? a car modifier type? a mechanic type guy? As "testosterony" as I felt when I took out the bits & pieces for babybenz to paint, I don't feel confident enough to try installing cruise control!
I can understand not needing cruise at the moment.

I was about to say, I have complete faith in you since you took out all those interior bits and pieces. Perhaps your local Smart Club may have a member that would be willing to oversee you installing it. It really is a very simple task as far as the installation. I'd rate it as a 3 out of 5 as far as difficult, the only reason it is that much is the pins which if you have the correct tool it is a very simple task.

What happened to putting a brick on the floor and having that be the cruise. By moving it forward or back you can adjust the throttle that way.

Karen....here in Washington the Car Toys shop is located just down the street from the smartcenter, and they installed my cruise. They also warranty it and will pay the hourly labor rate at smartcenter if there's ever a problem that's caused by the cruise! :>)
As far as some of the comments voiced on this thread about the cruise, if you're making trips in your car, I think cruise is a real benefit. Others obviously feel differently, and that's certainly their option! It would be a pretty boring world if we were all exactly the same, IMHO! :>)

For the Area 451 and the MDC, the installer would better be a stereo/alarm type vs a mechanic. Both installs are mainly wiring and socket based, all electrical, and neither actually touch the engine.

That's 50% of the reason I use it too. That's also one of the big reasons I went with the MDC unit vs the Area 451. The MDC unit also has a settable "governor" mode. You can set it to a max of say 75 or 80, and no matter how hard you press on the accelerator, it won't go over that limit. You can disable it by tapping the cruise button if you need to in a jam, but it keeps you under that if you're not paying attention and just lead-foot.

My only grip is that both can't be enabled at the same time. So if you have it on cruise and accelerate to pass someone, it lets you go beyond the governor setting, because cruise is enabled.
