Trouble with VIN?

So here's the first glitch. I went to my insurance company's automated quote system and started the process; when I entered the VIN the system rejected it. Claimed it should have 17 characters, not 15. Anyone else run into this yet?

sounds like you have an incomplete VIN. all VIN's are in fact 17 digits (including my Smart one).

you may be able to figure out what your v.i.n. is based on what digits are missing. all of the u.s. smarts have "w m e _ _ _ _ _ _ 8 k _ _ _ _ _ _" and if it is a passion coupe it appears to be "w m e j 3 1 x _ 8 k _ _ _ _ _ _" , passion cabrio appears to be "w m e k 3 1 x _ 8 k _ _ _ _ _ _"- hope this helps.

Thanks; I just saw that and it appears the "X4" characters were missing from my VIN for some reason. I've e-mailed smart usa and the selling dealer to get it corrected.

ALL VINS will start with "WME" this is the manufacture code and will not change by model.

The "4" in the X4 changes as part of the secret code, Your may not be a 4 unless the numbers all add up the same as the sample code given.
