Trunk area grocery problems

We picked up new Smart car two weeks ago. We went to the grocery store and picked up a few bag of groceries. Wen we got home we found that some of the bags had fallen and many of the items were on the floor behind the seat. Has anyone found a solution to this problem. It seems that a netting or something might keep the bags from falling. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The SMART website/brochure shows a bunch of storage options.. a net like you mentioned.. also some collapsable boxes to put your goods in... I'm sure others will chime in!

The dealer will happily sell you a cargo cover for 300 bucks. But I went to Target and got a pair of 18 quart Rubbermaid style boxes for 6 bucks each. Bungee cords for larger bags or use the boxes to anchor them. Use some of that anti slip stuff you put on shelves, line the back cargo area, and nothing slips.

A really CHEAP solution I found at Wal Mart.

Not pretty, but functional. It's an underbed storage box.

I've ended up using it minus the lid, which is too large for the space available to be practical. I just wanted something to keep stuff from rolling under the seats, without spending a lot of money. Works for me. Fits neatly, it's 66 quart/62 liter. 39.5x20.25x7". Probably too ugly for the taste of many folk though.

I used Haub bags that I bought at SuperFresh. I can put five fully loaded bags in my storage area. I also have a trunk organizer that helps keep the bags upright.

Spend the $150 for the cargo cover at the dealer. It is a quality item, fits well, clips in down below when not needed/more space is needed - but it keeps stuff from rolling forward.

I keep mine up (but retracted) all of the time - the backside has a nice net behind the seats for storage, and it velcros to the floor, blocking the cargo area from the front seats.

We bought a storage organizer at The Container Store but there are similar ones at Target. When not in use, it collapses and can be stored behind the seat. Ours even has some netting on the sides, forming pockets to put stuff in.

I bought the cargo cover which nicely separates the cargo area from the rest of the interior; the storage pockets are a good bonus. I also bought a trunk bag/organizer from Target that I use to hold grocery bags or loose/random stuff.

Also, if you buy and use the reusable bags that are being offered at most stores they don't roll around like the plastic ones...
