There is no "negative bias" when compared to the other brands.

So the National Advarage is more than one problem per vehicle?
I guess we are all shooting low.

What that doesn't show is the number of unresolved problems per 100.

If you think about it, Every 08 smart had a problem that the 2.0 upgrade took care of without charge to the customers. Take that away and you are down to 38 problems per 100.

Also, all the other manufacturers listed have more than one model to advarage their number over. Saying the smart is 3rd from worst car is not honest. within those other brands you will most likely find better and worse cars. I would like to see this broken down by price range

I got one of those surveys a month or three ago. It came with a dollar bill enclosed as "payment" or incentive to send in the survey. Unfortunately, I didn't get around to filling it out until earlier today. Oh well, it's in the mail now and I won't have to feel guilty about spending that dollar.

Perhaps they aren't providing data on the 2008 because it wasn't a full year of production. Deliveries started slowly in January.

What is it with you people? Can nobody admit the car is not perfect?

It's a survey of smart owners compiled by a well respected organization. All I did is provide a link.

I am also one of those that knew the car would depreciate rather quickly, it is a niche vehicle that a small number of people still want and don't have. Hopefully we don't have the same reliability issues as some have had, but that is why we got the extended warrantee. Good luck selling, fuel prices are rising, that may help the sale.
Indeed. Smart developed as a Euro-metro vehicle. The Forfour was tossed, so the remaining Fortwo model certainly underscores its metro-area application. I enjoy mine as a in-town runabout-- adding some performance mods here and there. It's a basic transportation/toy combo. Traveling down to AZ or up to WA--I'll use my current gen Honda--for very obvious reasons.

I admit the car isn't perfect, But it is disingenuous to imply smart isn't dealing with any issues that come up.

In fact their are several stories of smart going above and beyond when issues come up.

Also, one of the complaints about the car in the survey is the trany, If you think it's got a quality issue then thats your right, but it works as designed so I don't realy know how that can be an initial quality problem.
Thats like saying because the car has plasic body pannels rather then metal the initial quality is not as good, But when you get in a fender bender and it costs less to fix than almost any car on the road is it realy a quality problem?

JDPower are paid by the car manufacturers to give their vehicles good ratings. They hand out awards like handing out candy at halloween.
