Turn Signal and Wiper Stalk Caps Cracking

Has anybody had any problems with the plastic caps on the steering wheel control stalks cracking? I replaced the turn signal cap at 10K miles under warranty. Several weeks ago (at 34K), both the turn signal and wiper caps showed signs of splitting. The turn signal cap actually lost a pie-shaped piece out of it. My wife was kind enough to replace them with a gift of shiny billet caps that were perfect replacements.

OCMIKE, no problems with your Cabrio's control stalk caps? If you have had cracking, being another So Cal resident, could be the heat?

That would be my 1st guess. But we park underground. I'd think AZ, NV, or Florida owners would have the same problem only much sooner.

I had one of mine split after 18 months of ownership, warranty replaced. I have heard that different plastics have different shrinkage, depending on their formulation.

No, you must be mistaken. The tribe has spoken - there is a problem and since you live in a hot climate you must have overlooked the crazing/cracking. Sarcasm intended.

Actually, if my feeble mind is not too far out of wack, I seem to recall a similar discussion or three from way back in the dark ages of this board ('08-ish), but am too lazy at the moment to search on it.

I did a search before my posting and found nothing. I'm from back then but my mind must be more feeble than yours because I don't remember that. Unless it was me complaining about the first one being cracked. That would make me really feeble.
