Two Coin Slot

Ok, I have been scratching my head for well over a month trying to figure out why smart would create two knotches in front of the gear shift to hold two quarters and call it a coin holder. Why would a smart owner need 50 cents when most of us have cell phones? Am I missing something??

BTW, I did put two quarters in there but I can't see how they would help me unless I'm in a small town in NJ and have to feed the meter. In NY, you need at least $5 worth of quarters to get a decent amount of time, if in fact you find a real coin meter these days. Lots of them are being replaced by the credit card machines. Also, there are very few pay phones (let alone working pay phones) in NYC. Even if you found one, most telephone numbers are now considered long distance.

Please help me understand this design concept! Thanks everyone! Regina

passion and pure do have four slots. Designers had to find a way to use that special location that is used in cabrio for your roof. Why not a coin holder? They could have put a tiny cubicle for gum, candies. Or, worse, a WV Beetle like vase...

Quarters fit loose, I figure they were sized for Euro's that are a little thicker. Maybe try some silver dollars, I need to get some the next time I'm in Vegas, oh yea, I never come home with any money from there.

A penny for your thoughts...or two...

I have put a penny in each one just for fun...

BTW, that's my 2-cents worth take on the coin holders...

My coin slots.

Since quarters seemed to rattle quite a bit, I replaced them with the new $1.00 coins (they look gold). I figure if nothing else that could be for emergency gas money..(grin). However, because of this nasty winter we had with all the slush and snowfall, I have been thinking about replacing those dollar coins with One Dollar Tokens for my local self wash car wash. I've discovered that I can get the car fairly decently clean with the amount of time my local car wash gives with $2.00 so that could be for those times when I want to give the car a bit of a 'clean-up' because I don't want it to look dirty, but don't have the proper change/ or amount of 'bills' with me. If nothing else, it's a great conversation piece when people ride with me for the first time.

I think it's a European carry over and oversight, I guess PAG must have seen the slots in the European model and thought coin holder, but Europeans use it for "Shopping Cart Tokens".
Last trip to Germany I noticed some colorful plastic coins in similar slots inside a relatives Mercedes, when we went to the shopping center he pulled one of those tokens and used it to release a locked shopping cart, after returning the cart a machine returned his token.
I didn't ask but I think they pay once for that token so they can use the carts and the carts get returned to the corral every time people shop.
Another reason to own a Coupe in Europe, you can shop at four shopping centers LOL.

I'm surronded by tolls everyday so I am deeply appreciated by the coin holder. However I wish it coin holder had more capacity. I don't like using the compartment on the right side of the steering wheels as a coin holder type of place.
