Two years of smart car ownership

Two years ago today, my wife drove home our smart passion. After being on a waiting list for 2 years, we bought the ZAP G&K converted smart in Seattle, and my wife flew up and drove it 500 miles back home. We have been enjoying every minute of ownership of this car, other than the initial hassles we had registering it with the DMV since they had no idea what the car was. We had the first smart car in Idaho, and the second sold in the Pacific Northwest.

How's your ownership experience been? Any major problems, maintenance issues, or otherwise wise advise to pass along to your Grasshoppers?

I have given our smart car two oil changes myself, the first at 3500 miles and the second at 11,000. It now has a little over 12,500 miles on the odometer.

The only service issue I had over the two years was that I had to recharge my A/C last spring as it apparently leaked over the first winter. It is still too cool here to see if it works again this year, but I have cycled the A/C on periodically throughout the winter to keep the O-rings lubricated and hopefully not leaking again.

Reliability has been great other than the A/C leak.

Don't know about the 450s but our 451s turn on the AC compressor when we switch to the Defrost setting - which tends to get used almost daily in the winter...
