Upgrade 2.0

I got the letter and phone call to make an appointment to get the free 2.0 Upgrade. However, I am a 100% paddle shifter and wonder if there will be any improvement to the transmission or other advantage if I accept it. Who has already done the 2.0 and how do you like it?

I just had the upgrade done a couple days ago. I havent noticed any improvement in shifting rpm's or smoothness yet, but it's a little early to say for sure. One nice improvement though is being able to use a paddle to downshift even when your in automatic mode. No more having to move the gear shifter back and forth to change modes. To get back into auto mode, just hold the right-hand paddle for 2 seconds.

This was the 1st time back to the dealer since I bought it 14000 miles ago, so there were a couple other small software upgrades as well, all free of charge, so it's worth getting it done.

There is more to it than the transmission programming - there are two stickers that must be changed for legal reasons (one of which is VIN specific); a new, better owners manual will be issued (the '09 version); and depending upon VIN, possibly an upgraded battery.

Also there's less "squatting" when stopped, less aggressive crawl, and - if you haven't gotten a lube already - preventive maintenance against having your shift button stick on you; not being able to get out of park is a big annoyance.

I had my car's upgrade done about a month ago and I have noticed that the manual shifting seems smoother. I was not a fan of the automatic mode, and although it is better (less bucking), it's still too much for me. No more "squatting" (I called it "sighing") and the crawl/creep is WAY less - almost not there. All in all, I think the upgrade was a good thing.

The dealer mentioned the new owners manual, but I don't think he gave one to me. Was he suppose to or will it be mailed to me?

You should have gotten the manual there. When I took mine in I was told to leave the old one out so they could easily swap them.

I received the letter for 2.0 but my little car does not have paddles. I usually drive it in auto mode. Will the upgrade be beneficial to me? I might get it done any way since it is free and I think the Smart Center Edison has a really nice service area.
