Using an Ipod with the smart

With my smart, I just connect the ipod to the car's stereo via a cable in the glove box. I turn it on, select shuffle, and just drive. I can't change the song through the stereo controls. I looked in the manual, and I couldn't seem to find how you can switch songs without reaching in the glove box while sitting at a stop light. Thoughts, or tips?

you have to change from the ipod unless it is directly connected with an interface cable

I leave my ipod on the small "shelf" in front of the glove box -- I have to leave the glove box slightly cracked so the cord comes out, but that's all. But I also set my iPod to shuffle, so I mostly don't care about changing songs.

I drilled a hole in the back of the glove box to let the cord through. I have a power supply plugged into the cigarette lighter and leave the iPod in the cup holder. It is pretty lame to not have full control in such an otherwise well equipped car though.

I do find it quite silly that they put the audio connector in the glove box without a power connector. That definatly falls under "what were they thinking"

You can't.... unless you run a setup like I have or similar... I installed an additional 12v outlet in the cubby between the steering column and the radio. Then I ran an audio input cable from the glove box over the AC and to the area where my new outlet was. All you have to do is remove the radio cover... there is plenty of room and no drilling is required. I'm using a belkin TuneBase. I'll post pics tonight when I have access to the car. This also works very well for my new Iphone as I can use the GPS feature as well as the phone and Ipod functions

You can use a Griffin Tuneflex, which docks to the ipod and has an audio output that you can then connect to the aux input in the glovebox (you can wire the cable under the dash and behind the glovebox). It keeps the ipod within fingertip reach.

I don't have my smart yet, but if there is a cigarette lighter in the car (hopefully) I have the attachment that runs from that to my ipod. Works as good as the radio sounds.
