My mom had this question for you guys and she e-mailed this to me asking me to post this on this site for her.. hopefully some people here can answer her question. Here it is:
"Question about the color panels on the smart car. If the title and registration states the color of the car, what happens when you decide to change the color panels?"

Most jurisdictions do not state the car's color on the title. Some do list the tridion color (in few instances at the owner's request). Your mother will have to ask her local DMV.
I do know our jurisdiction requires body color.. i think it's a state thing here in Ohio. I know every time I've gone to re-register my New Beetle.. I've always had to state its color.. and when my best friend registered his PT Cruiser, in a different jurisdiction, he too, had to state its body color.

I would assume, if your state requires the color be listed, then you have to tell the registry of your state if you change panels--just as, if you took your 2003 Honda Civic or your 2005 Ford Mustang or whatever, and painted it a new color, you'd have to do the same.
Plain City... My title states the car is black which is the tridion cell and that being the only "permanent" part of the car. So, technically, here in Ohio, smart only comes in 2 colors, black and silver. Russ

exactly my thoughts. in Indiana, the "Title" doesn't state 'color' but the "Registration" DOES! but here, when you go to the BMV to initially do the paperwork, they ask "...and what color is your car?" my response will be "Black" as my Passion is a White with Black Tridion. i 'may' plan on changing the color later to either the new Rally Red OR have another set of panels painted Mopar "Plum Crazy" Purple................SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:co ol:
I just went through this. Did a panel swap between cars before I even officially registered the car. One car was registered by Tridion color and the other car was registered by the panel color. I was able to change it right on the spot for the registration, I changed the color from red to silver, the color of the Tridion. The DMV said it would be a little more labor intensive to fix the color on the title so I let it be.
In about two weeks I'll be changing the color once again anyway, this time I'm painting.
