if people thought that way (litres per person) we'd all be riding on trains & buses. cute bus though. what were the crash test results again?

as for the ad copy, well we never needed the back seats in our Renault R5...

;-)

I don't understand what VW is going for here. One of our biggest problems in the US is that we have the majority of people commuting by themselves in too much vehicle (SUVs and double cab pickups). Since the carpool and HOV thing has all but failed we need another tack and the smart is an excellent start.

VW has thier own smart type car in the wings. They might be trying to hold off smart purchases

Just saw this item in my "news watch" alert, but the story is not yet to be found in extenso:

Coming Soon to All 50 States: VW's 60 mpg Jetta Diesel

Sick of paying an arm and a leg for gas? Volkswagen's got you covered with its latest diesel, which gets 60 miles to the gallon and is so clean even Californians can drive it. Look for it in showrooms later this year.

Have you looked at diesel prices lately? Here in the SF Bay area it's running about 40 cents a gallon more than gas...

So, almost dead smart is a target for VW?
Are the 451's making a comeback there?

Okay. in Europe they figure milage by saying liters per 100KM. 2 people in a smart make it 1.6 liters per 100KM per person. in a OLD VW bus (all seats filled) you only have 1.4liters per 100KM. less liters = better economy.

Thus VW claims they were better way back when and the VW driver got alot better leg as a bonus!

When was the last time that you came accross a suburban seating 8? NEVER!!!!!!!!!!

lets all call it together:

B@!!$!%!
