I am still having a very hard time understanding what PAG has to do with it... Mercedes is the manufacturer...They are the only entity that warrants the car. It is they who suffer the costs of items that fail or go out of calibration...

Can an independent MB dealer get from Germany and sell to me a C Class for less money if I say just fold back the warranty to save me some bucks...??

Sure the costs to the manufacturer of any particular warranty length has an impact in overall costs of the auto

Please consider this... more then 50% of the redesign or the 450 to 451 was to correct design problems, reliability issues, and performance issues... not MUCH was changed to comply with DOT and EPA....

Thus, if reliability and performance issues were known, and this version claims to have fixed them, then there should be no quibbling about 3/36 4/48....

back hand side of that---because of these design changes AND a meager 2/24 we are somehow to have faith their engineers got it right this time....? That seems logic flawed to me

Roger's price point is NOT blown by a longer warranty.... I would like the economics of MB's risk translated into price per unit you think PAG is paying

PAG, like Cove Ford (my dealer for all things truck), incurs zero costs if a warranted item needs service--- MB or FoMoCo suffers the costs of their product not living up to their reliability predictions....

that's what I would think, too, Dickey. A Prius has one hell of alot more stuff to it than a Smart does.
Knowing what that extended warranty cost is ahead of time would be nice....

Warranty Comparison

Expanded from my earlier post...

With some cursory looking around I come up with the fact that France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Netherlands, Greece, Ireland, Norway, and the UK all get a 2-year warranty, and there are likely many others (for some reason, Switzerland gets three). So, the US warranty seems in line with that.

As far as the Canadian warranty goes (4-years), it may be the result of supplimental coverage provided by M-B Canada or smart Canada. Good for them.

If there is a bone to pick, it may have to be picked with smart GmbH and not PAG. Could it be that PAG's "under discussion" stance is to consider following Canada??

smart USA is sticking to the 2 year warranty. They explain that its to keep initial cost down and customer can customize their warranty like they have been adding over $1000 in options to the base price.

See the LA Auto Show video link where the smart Director of Communications comments on the two year warranty and options to extend it.

And here's a link to the UK warranty its 2 years no mileage limit. Also note that they give 6 years rust through protection in the UK as well, and its not a real dry place there.

I'm sure the USA will have different language, at least its not in German!

Fishrdnc well that is good to know info...thanks...makes my point moot... relatively speaking... a large cross section of the 37 countries all having a basic 2/24 puts things is a different perspective for me... again thanks for taking the time to look it up and post... learn new crap every day here...
