Weird beeping after turning engine off

tonight, I came home, parked my car. Turn lights off, turn engine off. Take the key out and there was this faint beeping sound - just like if I left my lights on and the car was reminding me that I forgot them... So I thought it was weird so I put the key in again and turned it into position 1 and saw all my display come on - waited 10 seconds then turned the key to the left and took the key out - no more beeping sound... Everything was ok...

something like this similar happened to one of you before? I hope its not and indication that something is about to happen.

A couple of times. I just did what you did and the beeping stopped. I'll eventually get it looked at I'm sure.

I figure it's either a seat belt sensor in the passenger seat, or one of the door light switches........it's been happening to me on and off for 4000 miles now.....or we're on the eve of an invasion from outer space.

Hi Amethyste

Yep, same problem as the other thread - it's happened to me 2-3 times. I figure it's my car's way of saying he doesn't want me to go - he gets lonely.......;)

I decided to follow a certain protocol:

* Turn on the key and wait for the computer to "come on line" and look at all the lights in my display.

* Buckle up

* turn on engine

* Drive to destination and enjoy my smartie - wave to people - adapt to "Joie De Vivre"

* Turn off lights - radio - apply parking/emergency brake - unbuckle

* Turn off engine

* wait a couple seconds before taking key out

* Take key out

* Exit smartie ( sad face )

* Lock Smart ( happy face to look at this little cuteness )

* Dream of my work day to be done fast

Yeah, it's happened to me a few times also as soon as I take the key out. It goes off as soon as I get out and close the door. I thought I may be accidently pushing a button on the key fob as I pull the key out of the ignition. I've also noticed as I'm working in my garage with my keys in my pocket that when I bend over or lean against something that it will lock and unluck my smart doors.
