Alsrac, you only have 7000 miles on your car?? I thought all those trips to KC would add up!

I thought I drove hardly at all, and I've got 12,500. My work round trip is only 15 miles. So, I may put about 100-125 a week on it. I've taken a couple trips to the lake, but those round trips are 300.

You should, it just means we get to spend more time in our smarts! More smiles per mile!

I fill my smart every 4 days, and I'm averaging 43-45 mpg. I'm just shy of 40K on mine right now, 5/2/08 delivery.

18 months and I'm just past 10,000 miles (700 of which in the last week). I'm more likely to be checking parts for dry rot than wear. My 2002 Explorer's only got 65,000 miles (we bought it at 43,000 and added 22,000 in 5 years) - the suspension went south after a boot that protects the ball joints dry rotted, causing added wear.

Anyone that doesn't drive much - maintenance also is important on a time cycle. Don't think that mileage is the only measure.

If you have a long commute, it's possible. I used to put almost 1000 miles a week on my TDI Bug last year and went from around 40k to 92,000. Not the first bit of trouble except VW gouges you for oil changes. I hope my (future) Smart will be the same way.

Maybe it's like the GameCube or Wii consoles and the games made for them. You get the console (Smart Car) cheap and pay more heavily than expected for the games (oil changes). Nah, that's not it. But that's my attitude. The car was inexpensive, and I get tons of use out of it. I don't begrudge my dealership the price of the oil changes and maintenances. I'm still doing better than I'd have done with any other car.

Here is a list of what was performed/changed at the dealership:

CASHA A SERVICE
8440 CP, $99.00
4 Q-1-09-0162 5W-40 Mobil1, ($7.50x4), $30
1 A1321800010 Oil Filter, $12.60
1 0-4-86-0000 Washer Concentrate, $1.99
1 A0189974445 Seal Ring, $2.70
Labor, $99

I'm not sure what some of those things mean ("Casha"?), but basically I had an oil change, 4 quarts; a new oil filter put on; a new seal ring (not sure what that does); and a refill of the washer fluid.

The new tires came to $540 including labor. That section basically has the tires listed as $110 per front tire, $135 per rear, $3 per tire valve (because I have nitrogen in the tires), and $7 per tire for balancing. I also seem to havae paid $2.50 per tire for scrapping altho I kept the tires. The labor, other than the balancing, was free. This last part was after I talked over the bill with my Mercedes rep, who initially had the bill at about $1048. After he made those adjustments, the final bill was $747. I believe he mainly took off the labor charges, tho it's possible that some items that were done/changed were omitted from the bill.

So that's my long answer to whether I had the valve adjusted. Short answer: I'm not sure.

If you buy tires from a dealer they shouldn't charge for mounting and balancing. Its usually a free service.
