I called the local police here and they pretty much told me it would be wasting my money away, especially here in the town where I live with 3,000 habitants - but they surely asked me if I wanted to donate that amount to their cause lol...
If the transponder is NOT in the car the immobilizer is activated and the way to move the car is on a flat bed or towed only. Right? Would this alone not qualify for a discount for insurance? Adding $500 for a $3-$5/month discount is not enticing enough for me. Adding Teletrak to see where teenagers rumble is much more enticing but for over $1000, on a $16k car seems excessive. HMMMMM

We have now come a full 360 degrees on your original question. Unless there's a band of squirrel car thieves in your area, you'll be OK sans LoJack.
Well we put it in ours and have the early warning since the Smart is new and small thought would be target for joy riders or theives. Also the Ohio Sate Patrol can track them so that should be state wide.
lo jack seemed like a good idea when it first came out..
but honestly speaking...
if you know your car has been stolen AND you have FULL coverage on your car, do you really want it found after someone broke into it?
i mean not to sound insensitive or anything but
i'll take the loss and buy a new car with the insurance money.
any thoughts?
Having seen first hand what a thief does to a stolen car, I would rather have the money than the car. Having said that, some insurance companies do not give you fair value so you become a victim twice.
