I really want to know what lead you guys/gals to buy your smart. I have seen demoed the car and am impressed, but not to the point of forking over 14 big ones. What caused you to buy the car? Please try to say something besides gas mileage.
THANKS FOR YOU R TIME ;-)!

Its cute, fun, unique, best price convertible in the states (for the Cabriolet), gas mileage, and again FUN! FUN! FUN!
I, personally, think that the smart fortwo is like a Mini Cooper, Mazda Miata, Pontiac Fiero, etc, etc! You either LOVE the car and want one for yourself, or you don't! You have to justify for yourself the reason why you would or would not want one, and no one on this forum even knows you, so why would anyone presume to explain why you should buy one? Not trying to be flippant either! It's like some people are cat people.........some people are dog people.........some are smart people........some are, well, something else! :>) Normally, I think for those people who want to be convinced, they're usually better off (and maybe happier) with something else, e.g. Yaris, Fit, Aveo, etc. Those of us that love our smarts didn't need to be convinced! That may not be the answer that you're looking for, but I think it's an honest response! Good luck!
Is it practical is what I am getting at. Considering every other car, what made you choose THIS one. I get that it is quirky fun and gets people to stare in awe, but what really compelled that this is what you wanted to drive every day???

As bigcritter said, "some people are cat people.........some people are dog people.........some are smart people......" ... Well, I haven't received my cat y ... I mean smart yet. But, I have noticed that most smart owners are not single vehicle owners. I expect to take delivery of my smart this weekend (yippie!!), but will keep my Nissan ... at least until I'm satisfied the smart will be IT for me. When I have made my decision, I'll likely sell ONE of the cars. And, in the unlikely event it is the smart that has to 'go', I am reasonably sure I can sell it with no loss, and even likely a profit.
Frankly, if you're looking for a practical car, you might be better off looking at the Fit or Yaris. I'm driving a 2006 Nissan Sentra. I'd have to say it is more practical in a number of regards. But, it is a boring ride. The smart is not.
If you don't get it, then don't get it.
If you have to ask, you won't understand.
I'm not on the fence any longer, I've decided to buy assuming the CU OK's the deal. But, his primary concern appears to be practicality. If that WAS my prime concern, I wouldn't even think about buying a smart. ESPECIALLY if he lives a substantial distance from a dealer, as I do.
