The lip of the car is chromed and so is the front of the side-mirrors are chromed. It looks great but is awfully expensive ($400+).

First of all, it is all plastic. No CrO3 involved.

Second, it is all stuck to your car with double-sided adhesive tape.

Third, it consists of: a shiny grille in the place where normally you would have the air inlet to the radiator in front of the car; shiny mirror caps (but not full caps, as these fill only about 80% of the mirror's non-mirror surface); and a shiny accent line as wide as the tail door's lift handle.

One of my mirrors popped out within 2 weeks of ownership as, I was drying the car, by merely grazing it with a cloth. The dealership got it glued back in place at no charge.

I think the shiny in the back door looks nice. The shiny in all these shiny surfaces, while plastic, is very nice and mirror-like. Your mileage may vary.

Sue, be sure and don't get scammed by the dealer.

The "chrome package" is not something you can order in advance (i.e., a year ago). It is something you buy from the dealer and gets installed by the dealer either very near delivery or even after you buy the vehicle.

Unless the original purchaser only just walked away literally a day or hours before taking delivery of her car, I have a hard time seeing how it could have gotten to the point where the dealer went ahead and put $400 worth of additional stuff just for the heck of it.

The price should be $400 plus tax. My dealer installed it at no additional charge and offered a one year warranty which he honored in the "labor" portion two weeks later when one of the mirror caps fell out in my garage.

I also bought the chrome ring for the foglights and when one ring fell off and got lost on the road within 24 hrs of purchase he installed a brand-new replacement for free.

Best of luck,

the dealer selling an orphan "with the chrome package" is BS. it's a dealer-add-on, as mentioned earlier, they don't come from the factory that way. tell them you don't want the chrome package. it is about $30 worth of plastic that they rape you for $400 for.

Of course if that's the only thing they've added on, by comparison to other dealership's orphan add-ons.....its not bad!

Sue, another side note. If you are in love with the yellow, and you are ready to buy an orphan that isn't, I suggest you order the yellow panels soon. It appears they will be discontinued in 2009.

I have a feeling they may have added chrome wheels too and it's a dealer add-on "Chrome Package" with a PREMIUM price. Shoot me if I'm wrong but I have a feeling they'll want to rape you for MUCH more than $400.
