I have done that... Most times they don't seem to care. Last night I was going through one of those circles and was yelling out "Watch the road...Not me...!"

Humm. Let's see. Red light. Oh! Turn the tunes down, and hum "Neener neener neeeeener" until it's green for go. Then I wave, honk, smile, and gloat.

Can't wait for my plates: 1) HELLO, 2) CLOUD9, or 3) WOOHOO.

I was a little blue this morning. Lots of reasons. Then I had to run an errand. The mean ol' blues just faded away as I started her up, and tootled off down the road. That first smile from a pedestrian put me back into perma-grin mode.

When I had my 64 Bug, it was in such mint condition people waved and smiled, I got kisses blown to me and everything. The same questions: What year? Is the motor in the back? etc. I don't get a whole lot of that with the New Beetle except at the pump when they ask "Is that a diesel"? "Naww, these German cars run on anything." "here's your sign"

Practice my pageant wave

Smile.

And often roll down the window when asked, to answer all the usual questions. Lots of questions.

Considering how anonymous people are behind the wheel, it is nice to have a car that encourages people to be friendly.

When you're 63 years old it's great for the ego when some 20 something smiles and waves. I love it!

I'm with Russ, although I have a long way to go until 63 (about 6 months).

Seriously - it's a great car and I thoroughly enjoy people's reactions to it - almost always a big smile (which I return). If you want to be ignored, drive a Hyundai or something like that.

I've had more conversations with strangers in parking lots in the past 4 weeks than I've had in the 20 years prior.

After 6 weeks, I'm still enjoying the looks, smiles, questions, etc. that this little car gets all of the time. For now, I'm enjoying my 15-minutes of fame - its good for my ego. (Hey, I'm old and I'll take all I can get.)

I posted this last month in another thread right after I got my smart. It did and still does, pretty much sum up my "modus operandi":

Definitely allow extra time for every errand, smile at the cell phone pictures, wave when waved to, nod when given a thumbs up, smile even more when you catch people staring at you and they look embarrassed, watch out for people who speed by in the other lane then hit the brakes for another look, keep an eye out for drivers drifting into you lane as they try to get a good look, and feel really good about being one of the first in your area to have one.
