smart comes from Swatch Mercedes ART.

I believe the chicken head logo is, as JPaul hit at, Compact and Forward Thinking.

I thought the logo is supposed to be a circle with an arrow, sort of melded together, representing the smart slogan: Forward Thinking.

We're both going in the right direction: "forward" is the key word...

Looks like a Chicken Head to me...<:-))
The Question is... Why would a Company want to use a Chicken Head as a Moniker, unless they were selling Chicken...???

Woah, we got some mix ups in here. To summarize:

The smart ( C> ) logo means: . . . . . . . . . C = Compact
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . > = Forward Thinking

smart is actually an acronym, what it is: Swatch Mercedes Art

Swatch is a watch company that had come up with the "interchangible panels" idea for the smart but dropped out when the smart came into production.
