A little Car electricity 101 just in case some following this thread are curious or confused
A 12 volt car battery is really a little more then 12 Volts Direct Current VDC. All Lead-Acid batteries supply about 2.14 volts per cell (12.6 to 12.8 for a 12 volt battery) when fully charged.
The automotive charging system (your alternator) generates Alternating Current (AC) that is converted to DC by a Bridge rectifier. The output of this alternator can vary from 13.2VDC up to 14.7~8 VDC based on motor RPM and load.
I do not have my hands on a smart yet so I have no idea how it is configured
In general:
Many cars have two 12VDC receptacles one the traditional "cigarette lighter" and usually has a low amperage fuse. This receptacle is not usually rated high enough to power many other devices that require a higher amperage.
The "Power" receptacle is designed with heavier wire and higher fuse rating to carry the higher loads of some Ham radios, small amps, laptops, Navigation, inverters, or other accessories...
Usually a cigarette light works fine in these smooth bore power ports, however caution! Many do not have the extra lip or retainer to prevent the lighter from popping out onto the car carpet... So test before you rely on a "power" receptacle for a lighter...
Condescending response?...humm.....A curious way to describe a informative post, in a thread that is viewed by hundreds or thousands of people.
Perhaps you may be unaware that some times I post a thought or question, like above about the 9 volt power port, and I instantly get three of four Private Messages (PM) asking about the port and how much volts it provides.
Many times, I answer directly. But sometimes, the questions suggest there may be some larger group with the same curiosity or confusion.... so I opt to post in public so everybody can learn something.
I even learn new things..........Like the fact that the smart fortwo only has one power port, and it is rated for 15 amps.
Justnameme. Hey, why flame Fred? He's one of the good guys.
A2jack.
Because....
The thread is about "What fits in this slot...?" and he makes fun of SmartyPantz saying 9 volt instead of 12 and then turns the thread into a tutorial on the power plug.....
I see a pattern in several of his responses and I commented on it so shoot me
Freds response was neither condescending or arrogant. It was informative and precise. He didn't make fun of anyone. He was adding insight to a post so that no one would mis-understand the voltage of the outlet.

you know what, nevermind
Might want to think through a bit more before you post. And just FYI, if you are posting something you are pretty sure is going to upset someone, puting a little smiley face afterwards won't make it better. You obviously aren't joking.
