"Is that what I look like?"

Ok, I have finaly had a few smart sighting lately.
One while I was getting onto the Interstate, I was at 65 and this little Red blurrrrr went by. Made me look like I was standing still.

Here is my thought process

"WOW!! Look at that tiny car over their.

Oh wait, Im driving one of those."

THen I see a ity bity car over in the parking lot across the way and think, Dang that thing is narrow and tiny. "Oh wait, Im driving that."

This has made me think we need to realize we are driving a Tardis. When we are inside we forget what we project this car is. When driving a smart it is realy easy think you are driving a big car. It sits up high and the cabin feels roomy. To the outside world it seems just the oposite and does not present a threat.

Just thinking out loud this sunday morning.

Oh, And I would have to say, no other car that folks compair the smart to like the Yaris or IQ make me think "Dang that car is small" But when I drove the Yaris in a test drive I felt like I was in a tiny tin can.

That about says it all. My wife and I went to the car show in Dallas and we had trouble getting in to some of the "larger" cars. Le the fun begin

When I test drove the smart at the road tour, I was watching other smarts drive by and i asked the guy that went with me , if all the smarts were the same size. He just laughed at me and said yes. I sure thought that those other smarts were a lot smaller than what I was driving.

I know this feeling differently... I'm only 4'10" so whenever I see someone unusually short I turn to my boyfriend and say "OMG! That is a really short person!" and he has to stop me and say... you're even shorter But how can I know if I don't see them?

And my friend and I saw a smart opposite us in an intersection and he said "Wow, I didn't realize how weird we look."

I recently have been challenged by some LARGE vehicles trying to get around me and merge in front and I have not backed off and succeeded every time... I will not be punked just because someone thinks they have a bigger or faster car and can bully me!

That's why I pass them back, if possible.
I've have someone come from two lanes over, speeding like all out.. then get in front of me and slow down when I have enough space behind me to fit 4 Semi trucks...
I don't get that...
On topic, I've seen another smart on the highway and again realized how small I really looked.

I've gone to several Smart Car Rallies and it's just crazy seeing the car from another view. I was the sweeper car at the last rally, and it was so fun watching 26 fellow Smart's driving down the road. You just don't notice how small the car is when your in it, feels and drives much bigger.

It's funny, but the more I got used to the Smart Car while doing my research, the bigger it seemed to grow over time. I remember my own amused reaction to the first ones I saw in Europe and how I couldn't resist taking photos of every one that I saw to show the folks back home the silly little cars they drive over there. Even the first ones I saw here in my hometown seemed ridiculously tiny. But now my perception is changing. I'm not saying that I would ever mistake one for an Escalade, but the Smarts do seem bigger to me than they did when I first saw them.

Then again, when I see mine parked on the street next to my GMC truck, or even behind my neighbor's Toyota Matrix, it does seem small, almost laughably small. But I find that I continue to take an almost perverse amusement from that. I enjoy looking at the Smart Car because it always makes me smile, even chuckle at times. It's so freaking TINY! But when I walk up to it and climb inside, it grows to "normal car" dimensions almost magically. Then it is no longer a tiny car.

Can't figure it out. It must be a delusion of some kind. But it's a fun delusion, and I'm enjoying it!

Michael
