This is so funny because on Friday I had to drive my old Scion Xa to pick up a mini fridge from work and run some errands. I was driving around and saw a red Passion coupe and thought "I have one of those".

Early on we would come around the back of the car and walk past the drivers door. It just came up too quick

When I was picking up my smart from the dealer, I walked out to the car with my wife standing next to it and said, "What have I done?"
It is still amazing that I don't even think of it as a small car anymore.

My wifey drove ours for only the second time this weekend, to Tech Talk and some other errands. When we walked up to the back of the car, she kept on walking past the door.....I think she was experiencing the same feeling as you. TOO FUNNY!

It IS amazing, as I don't 'feel' like I'm in anything THAT small when driving. It just hits me everytime I get out and I think "...but it doesn't SEEM that small...".

...ahhhh...I know you're just jealous of my diminutive, muscular physique...which comes in handy...after seeing the way you put down the cream filled ones, it is easier and quicker for me to jump over you than go arround you.....

I'm always driving my smart, and I rarely get to see another on the road. In fact, in 1 year, I've only seen one other smart 'in the wild.' So, whenever hubby takes it for errands on the weekend, I always stand at the door & watch them drive off. I always think " Ohhhh...how cute is THAT??? So THAT'S what I look like!"

Once when I was pulling out of the parking spot at work, I caught a glimpse of my shadow...and had to pull back in my spot, roll down my window, and say to my boss parked right beside me "Look how CUTE my shadow is!!!"

Ditto! That took a while to get used to!

Or, you pull into a spot thinking it's tight and find you've got like 5 feet in front and behind you.

I haven't had the 'bully' problem, but I have been able to squeeze into some small traffic gaps. The exit that I use requires changing multiple lanes after a merge. There is typically a line of traffic in the exit lane and it's not uncommon that people won't allow much space for people to merge in. It's like they thing you're skipping line when you have no choice (after the freeway merge you've got about 1/4 mile to change two lanes before the exit). So, this morning, after driving with my blinker politely on for a little ways, a guy in big Caddy won't back off any and I'm boxed in my lane. There's not much space between the Caddy and the vehicle in front of him, but I squeezed right in and then he decided to back off a bit. After this incident, a guy decides to run a stop sign while yacking on his cell phone as I come to the bottom of the freeway exit. I was really wishing for a louder horn about then...

I've had my smart for 8 months now and I've grown very accustomed to it. The other day I was driving down the freeway and caught up to another smart. All I could think was "Oh my god that thing is small".

I never feel small when I'm inside the car, and even when I see others around town (there are 4 or 5 of them locally) I still don't think much about the size, but when I see one on the highway and it barely fills 1/2 of the lane, it amazes me how small the cars really are.
