The IQ or a cabrio are about the only things that might tempt me to trade. At the rate I am putting mileage on the car I figure it will out last me.

Then go wild with the engines? Like using a miniature v8? using a wankel/rotary type engine? Perhaps a very small gas turbine?

not traded in a car yet in 26 years of owning them. dive them till they drop or i find something different and then my family usually get the old ones if needed. or if some one needs them. i usually put over 200,000 on them. this will also be my 2nd new car ever to date and this one i'm getting it way i want it to be.

so unless something really bad happens i will have it for a long time..

I'm your opposite. I buy no less than 1 new car a year, sometimes as many as 3. Over the last 25 years I have never bought a battery, set of tires or done any more than the normal maintenance. In fact, my first smart orphan was sold before its oil change...

I think they've BROKEN their engine. There is no way to reap mileage in the 20s unless you:
a) live in SanFran
b) drive like a maniac

I'd have to work pretty hard to get mileage that low. I think I get around 30 going uphill (seriously).

That's odd, you should probably try to figure out why

With the amazing mpgs some get while on a flat grade, going uphill at 30 shouldn't be too hard

I've driven mine just under 27,000 miles since May 9, or about 3200 miles a month. If that avg holds, I'd be happy to reach 200,000 miles around 2014, going for 200,000 miles. I'm really hoping that smarts are still being made and serviced then, because I'd hate to have to drive anything else into Manhattan (for parking). I've considered getting another one just to stand by.

Since I`ve wanted one since 1999, my smart won`t be sold or traded in any time soon! It will makes a great spare car down the line.

I drive my vehicles like I "stole" them !

Run them till the wheels fall off; but them back on, and run them some more
