I don't plan to sell my Smart and I have now 24K in 7 months...But if I had to put a number on it Id say Just before 200K and if just if I gave it up it would have to be for another Smart!!!!!! Possibly the Electric Smart.
I don't plan on ever selling mine, in fact, my oldest son will be 9 in April, I have already told him that my smart will be his first car! I've owned my smart for 9 months now, and will turn over 20K this week. I love my smart.
Great responses. I'm averaging 44 mpg when I'm not careful and 46-47 mpg when I am. Oddly enough, I'm not tempted by the IQ. I bought the Smart because I felt guilty hauling my solo butt around in an SUV, although if MB brings in their A class Diesel, I might succumb.
I normally trade out cars VERY often and go through enough per year that normally is enough to make me a dealer - last time I got rid of something was just today.
With the Smart, I'll most likely keep rebuilding until I get bored. From what I've seen/done so far an engine swap looks VERY simple so a low mileage donor junkyard motor/tranny when the time comes should be a simple enough when the time comes. This time around I plan on keeping them for quite a while as I'm simplifying my life the closer I get to retirement. Simplifying means not going to buy new cars every three months on average (that's true numbers, at least for the last 18 years I've been married to my wife).
