I'm No Nube here, but I still don't know what this thing is on the controls.



Any Clues?

I figured that must be the "eye" for the motion sensor. Am I wrong?

Nope, infrared temp control sensor like wrumbarger said. I think the best guess we had on how it works is that it determines if the AC is providing the temperature you want by sensing the driver's (and maybe even the passenger's) temperature, rather than just measuring the temperature of the air coming out of the vents. There was at least one thread on this last year.

So where does the midget (motion sensor) live?
