when why did you buy a smart

i love this question at times about owning a smart car..

why did you buy such a small car like the smart and here is the answer i give them

1-iam single along with all my childern are grow and out of the house..

2-great for me to drive around in town for work and personal use when out to go shopping.. along with since iam not hauling any rug rats around it fun to drive

3-great for when on a date it you and the date and no one else in the car..but i have fit three people in the car for a really great drive one time .

4-great gas milage for the amount that i drive and i tell people how much ot cost me to fill up twice a week it make them mad

5-it fits me and my lifestyle.

6- i can haul a week worth of food in the car

7-you never asked me to help you move like when i had a pick up truck before..people who never would talk to me at work would come up and ask me to help them move ..

so what is you basic answers to that question why did you buy a smart car..

I haven't made the video yet, but the answer is:

(1) 99% of the time it's just me in the car or myself and one other person. For that 1% when I have to drive 3 or more people, our family has 2 other cars I can use; so why spend extra money for that 1% of the time?

(2) Great gas millage AND the car costs a lot less than a Prius.

(3) It's easy to drive and a lot of fun.

(4) The smart fortwo has shown that it's a safe car.

(5) It's the car I wanted!!!

... and to all the smart haters out there, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn (what you think)!"

I have a short commute entirely on surface streets. I thought they were different and cute. I also got a great deal. Also, I wanted to replace my old convertible with another...I mean - hey - I DO live in S.W. Florida! My wife really love the SMART too. She's glad it's my new commuter vehicle with the newer safety features and all...rather than my old, needing major repairs, convertible.

1 - now we have a car that the kids love, "but oh, sorry we cant bring your friends along, so sorry"

2- no one is going to ask me to help them move

3- Wife and I can go for a nice long drive together and not worry about how much it will cost us. In fact it is cheaper than a night out doing almost anything else

4- Sorry hun, I know that's a great piece of Furniture, but we drive the smart today, so nope we can't take it home

5- In a couple years when my daughter gets it as a hand me down at 16, NO BACK SEAT, and she will not be the town Taxi

in all honesty, it was the wife's idea, she is the commuter, She kept track and found 98% of the time she was alone in the car, another 1% of the time she had a coworker with her. and for the other 1% we could easily plan around taking the family car because then I would be alone and could take the smart.
For any commuter out there, unless your in a carpool, you can easily live with just 2 seats in one of your cars. Most households in America have more than one car, and many have even more.

I agree, most of my driving is to and from work, at varying hours so a carpool won't work for me. Almost all of my driving is with just myself or one other person . I tried a motorcycle but because of my unsane work schedule, I never knew what time I would be heading home, or what the weather would bring (in Minnesota) Riding a motorcycle in 100 degree heat is not that much fun, or in a torrential downpour, or bucking tornado winds and hail. Then there are the cute little critters commonly called "may flies, and June Bugs" those Junebugs are like being hit with a stone when they hit you at 60 mpoh, the may flies are like driving on grease whne they cover the roads (and they do)

Driving a smart. I don't need to worry so much and am a lot safer than the Bike. I average right around 25K - 30K miles a year. I figure my gas savings alone to be roughly $5K alone.

Plus, I have met more people driving a smart, had a ton more fun getting there and they are just plain neat looking cars.

like a lot of you i have a crazy work set up where i work 40 hours in a week and the next work on job of three hours along with it could be all day time work or all night work or evening shift work ..i have been as far north as Seattle area and as far east as Salt Lake area for jobs..

1 went out of town last week for a couple days of work along with one person who rode up to the job site in Reno and we had packed into the small trunk area .. two clothing bags and a super oversized work laptop case filled to the brim with everything need for our work and my sling bag for my ipad in the trunk area...

it was not uncomfortable at all . the gas mileage went down a little bit but that was because of the extras wieght of another person and clothing and other items loaded into the car.

Bought a new house on the beach with no parking but a 2 car garage, got my kids big wheels and bikes and 2 SUV's. Had to get a car that will fit in the garage with rest of the junk.

I've always wanted a convertible sports car. I needed an efficient mode of transportation to commute the 20 miles round trip to work every day. I wanted a car my partner would fit in comfortably too. He is six foot five. Head room and knee room precludes most other vehicles that are convertible with efficient design. The look of the Brabus with it's low to the ground air dams was really appealing to me, and it is so much fun to drive.

The reason I bought my little car is:

1) I like little cars. I am into micro cars (even though I don't own any) and the Smart car is a modern micro car (small and safe; unlike micro and mini cars of the past).

2) I travel alone to and from work. It is a 15 mile round trip. Driving to work is the fun part; work not so much.

3) Since I don't travel far to work, a fill up does not cost much and usually lasts about a month (most months I fill up once and others twice). When I tell people this, their mouths usually drop in amazement.

4) I saw a video at Smart USA showing two big guys - one bigger than the other - having no problem getting into the Smart car, I realized how roomy it was. It is easier for me to get into and out of my Fortwo than my Dad's Ford Focus.

I reserved my little car in July 2007 and bought it when it arrived in March 2008 from Smart Center Edison in Edison New Jersey.
