Who is going to have to wait til 2009?

So lots of people are going to get the news that they won't get a 2008 model even thought they placed their reservation in 2007.... Will certain areas wait longer even with the 'load balancing'? Not to mention if people are upset now that they haven't recieved their confirmations yet what will they do when they find out they are still a year away? Just wondering if anyone has thought about that news....

There has been no announcement from Penske or smart USA that anybody will have to wait until 2009.

Please be careful in your speculation since no announcement on sales projections have been made by smart.

The only thing we've seen is some quotes from Roger that reservation requests have exceeded production levels. But we all know that that the reservation number is not equal to the number of cars actually sold. See "attrittion."

My dealer is expecting more cars than current reservation levels at his dealership.

There has been a statement that it's a possibility:

Associated Press (Dec 4, 2007)
Smart USA President Dave Schembri said customers who order the vehicle now would likely receive it in late 2008 or early 2009 but some vehicles may be available for new customers prior to late 2008.

I've got a late reservation - 1419 - and I actually hope I don't get a car much before 2009. I bought a new car in 2006 when I thought the smart was not coming here, and I'd like to get a little more use out of it before I trade it for the smart. Three years would be about right for me.

Like email is known to do - you have missed my point. i was just saying; does anyone have any idea if everyone who has reserved to this point will get a car in 2008 and if they don't how will those effected take that news.

Several on this board seem to bit a bit high strung about all of this...for example; someone posts that they are res #12XX and were invited to confirm on Dec X everyone lower than that starts having chest pains and calling smartusa to find out why they skipped their number.

i guess we will all sit back and listen to the work of spdickey and do as we are told....if he doesn't start the thread then it must be speculation.
