Hey, check with your nearest dealer! There are Orphan cars. Those dealers may put you on "another list" for a small fee (totally reimburseable) to get an available Smart without impacting your current reservation.... I take delivery tomorrow! And I wasn't expecting my number to come up for "many months". Someone has buy the orphans** why not check this out?

Worth the wait!!!!

I was one of the lucky ones who put my reservation in March 07, and my smart came in towards the end of January '08. So I waited about 10 months. My dealer told me that people putting in their reservations now need to expect about a year wait.

But go ahead and do it. The wait will be well worth it. Believe me.

I think the hype is here to say

Based on the reaction I have had from the head turners, I can't imagine the demand for these cars going down. Especially if you are a city dweller. You can find parking spaces that never existed before. That said, the hype for the mini has died down. But somewhere in my gut, I have a better feeling for the smart...but then again, I have one.

As an aside, a mini passed me on the highway yesterday and the driver gave me the thumbs up. Made me smile.

Waiting until '09

Unless something really unexpected happens, like an early invitation to confirm/configure, I think that I will be in the '09 production run, even with a 25 JUN reservation date. My dealer is planning on a through-put of 10-12 cars per month, and last time I spoke to someone they were looking at 250 "leads." Other figuring, including a guess on total attrition, sways me to think that I am 60% of the way into his list (IB/smartUSA's list for him). So, that looks like I'll rise to the top about the end of FEB '09.

Somewhere I read that there will be no major changes between '08 and '09, but hopefully the bugs will be worked out. For me, I will be mindful of a potential MSRP increase until such time as I C&C and they establish my price(s).

My wife has had a Mini since 2006 and although the hype has died down, I see more and more on the road. Perhaps it's the SoCal area, but I think the Smart is going to be popular for some time to come. Love my current ride, but can't wait for my Smart!

I'm counting on a mid-2010 delivery.
Been waiting since 2001...getting closer.
