Since no matter what I drive I'll be taking the long way everywhere (using high speed roads rather than slow village roads), I don't lose any gas..
School is really only 2.5+ miles away from my home...but my school bus is sooooo packed I'd rather walk to school...but my backpack (or winter) wouldn't make it a good walk...
My plan is to take a planned highway route that'll clock 15 miles every time I go to/come home from school, 30 miles round trip.
That equals 5-6k in just 9.5 months not including job or any other travel. And I can score brownie points for good mileage by taking the longer route which takes about the same amount of time due to highway speeds
Interesting thought Neon, which has me wondering others' opinion on a matter. Hopefully not too far off topic. Anyway, as I said before, I drive 60 miles round trip to work and back every weekday. With that distance, I have a few options for a route. a) The fastest route is 32 miles each way along the interstate. b) My favorite route is 37.2 miles each way. c) My usual route is 28 miles each way. Route "a" is boring, high speed, lower mpg, and at times hazardous. Route "b" is a mostly scenic country route at 45 to 60 mph. I get probably the best mpg on that route. Route "c" is the most economical since it is the shortest route. Takes longer than "a" because I go right through town, but faster than "b". Lower speeds, traffic lights, but not a whole lot of traffic. That's why I usually select this route. I'm curious what others would do given the same choices. Spend a little bit more on fuel and time to take "b"; who cares about anything but time and take "a"; or save money and miles with "c"?
