Probably asking the wrong person as I think smarts without the pods look sort of naked. However, they aren't "needed." But they are more expensive to add later than with your original configuration.

ALL the "add ons" are cheaper at the time of manufacture vs after delivery (some are ONLY available at time of manufacture)

I was told anything could be added for a price.... I added AC to my Pure and a ( radio(w c\d) and thats it. I ended up finding a local Pure with those exact options so I bought it. The only thing I might have had is the alarm system as that can't be added afterwards but I don't miss it. so far I have only added a ScangaugeII and a little paint on the wheel covers. (has the solid roof too)

Next aftermarket item will be a cruise control unt.

Price on mine (2008) was $15,000 with taxes and etc.
