we all like to hear about who has the least miles for the year and we hear about who has the most repairs. what about a thread for who has the most miles with the least repairs. that'd be the good stuff id like to hear about. i was just reading about a 10,000 mile service, maybe alittle more info would be a good starter post.
I just passed the 10,000-mile mark today. I had an oil change and the first service just a few weeks ago. At that time, I had my headlights re-aimed (they kept blinding the oncoming traffic). Other than that, the only time I've been in the shop was just after I bought the car -- to fix one of those loose wires connected to the fuel injection, a simple repair that didn't require me to lose the car for more than the afternoon.
I've had a few other glitches that have NOT been fixed, but they've been pretty minor:
1. The door latch doesn't always work on the driver's side (I just have to open it up from the inside to fix this). I had to deal with this today, in fact. It's fairly common for me.
2. The brights 'sizzle' when I use them, but the regular headlights are fine. This is apparently a loose wire, but the mechanics missed it at the 10K. I may have to fix this one myself.
Pretty happy so far! I just filled up today, having gotten about 45.5 mpg on the previous tank, a bit below my average; I seem to be getting about 47 to 48 mpg's for most tanks, on avg.
16k miles here on my 451. Getting ready for the 20k checkup soon. No problems to report yet. Good thing since I'm about 5.5 hours from my nearest dealer.

That's some serious highway miles, I presume. I just passed 2000 miles in 4 months of ownership, including the 600 mile drive home. 1400 miles in 4 months... 325mi/month... sheesh, that can't be good for a combustion engine. But mine's tootling along just fine. Still have to fix a leak in the A/C drain hose, but so far the electrical tape patch is holding.
The day after my original reply, of course some stuff goes wrong. My door wouldn't close even after my inner-handle trick, so I actually had to drive a few miles with it unlatched as I waited for it to fix itself. But before I could do that, I had to get it into gear, and sadly, it was stuck in P, as has happened once before.
In fact, the solution to that problem, which was suggested here, is what brought about the solution to the door issue. I always carry some WD-40 in the car after my gear shifter got stuck once before, and sure enough, the lube fixed both of these problems.
