Mpg

Every place in the world that quotes gallons (except for the oil industry) quotes Imperial gallons, including Canada. One Imperial gallon = 1.201 U.S. gallons. That's why scotch used to come in "fifths."

Smarts had Mercedes engines up through 2006. The 2006 and 2005 smarts are identical. Just a clarification...

Does anyone know for certain if it is a Japanes Mitsu engine or actuallly a Brazilian Chrysler as is my MINI engine? It's cheaper to build engines in Brazil than in Japan.

Differences in mileage due to MHD on Euro version, greater weight on American version, added US emissions equipment.

Phoenix -- rising from the ashes

Wow. Does this win in the "oldest resurrected thread" contest? I didn't even know that we HAD posts dating back to 2007.

It's funny to see how everyone overestimated the mileage.

I'd have to guess that the 'average' mileage for highway driving is about 41-42 mpg, or what the EPA says. Or maybe even a bit less. I'm not sure what speeds they use.

Yeah, it's funny to read people who were saying, "If it only gets 40-something in the city, that's too low!"

I think our '09 is about average for MPG. All city, around 32; mix of city and highway (urban driving, to work, etc.,.), around 36; more highway (a couple of trips to the casinos in CT), around 40; and nothing but highway (going from RI to NJ and back again) around 46.

I don't care enough to think about hypermiling. I have no interest in shutting my car off at red lights, or drafting a truck, or anything else. All I know is, 1) I get the best MPG of any non-hybrid car, and 2) the car is the cutest damn thing I've ever seen in my life. Every time I leave the house and look at it, I smile. Worth every penny.
