I have a bad thought. They offer a 2/24 warranty because they don't know how long the 451 will last.

The US gets the same warranty period as Europe does - 24 months plus whatever you are willing to pay to extend it. If the vehicle is truly good and built to a high standard than it is not a big deal. I have 3 Hyundai's and the great warranty was never used because of the quality of the vehicles. My current driver just turned 187k miles and is still going strong. Given that the ForTwo has a Mitsubishi engine is a much stronger incentive to believe in the cars longetivity than if it had the old Mercedes engines which were trouble prone.
There is also no reason whatsoever to think that a fortwo driven as a highway commuter will have more problems than one used as a 'city' car. Highway driven cars suffer far less stress than the stop and go of city only driven vehicles - just look at taxi's and police vehicle maintenance requirements.
Last point - if these cars prove to be trouble prone then they will fail in the US, American customers demand reliability more than any other factor, Chrysler and VW prove this point, all you have to do is look at their sales for the last few years. The drivetrain warranty won't sell cars for Chrysler.

Not to mention that they've held the announced price even though the dollar has loat almost 20% against the Euro.

BTW, Volkswagen of America just announced that with their '09 models, the VW warranty goes from 4 year/50k mi to 3/36...
VW used to be 2/24K, then in 2003 (IIRC) they went to 4/50K... now they are back. Sheesh.

i just opted for a dealer add on warranty to 5 years 75k.......
people can say what they want...... all the haters will always have an excuse...the owners will stand up for the car they drive.

so far......in 900 miles my car has been awesome. sure it is a little different.....its a strange little car! .why i purchased it .

i purchased car because of style and size... i really did not buy it because it was cheap/inexpensive,or because i am "helping the environment".

if i wanted a generic ****box car like everyone else seems to want,,,for as cheap as i could buy one ,i would of got one like everyone else .IE: Toyota ,Ford...whatever.

this car is unique.

I drive/work on rather high end cars every day......i see a lot...hear a lot....same story is seen/heard on these cars as a $250K car (like i drive daily)

just my 2cents
